PARIAH
Written and Directed by Dee Rees
A Brooklyn teenager juggles conflicting identities and risks friendship, heartbreak, and family in a desperate search for sexual expression.
Set against the kinetic and incongruous social landscape of middle class New York City, Alike vacillates between being a proud and sexually independent woman amongst her openly gay friends and being the feminine, obedient girl that her strict Christian upbringing dictates she be. Torn by mounting pressure from home, school, and within, the line between her dual personas wears thin with explosive consequences.

What They're Saying
"I thought it was an astounding movie and the lead actress was amazing. I was invested in the characters the whole way...and I've used the term ‘I'm not running, I'm choosing’ at least once since seeing the film."
-Stephen Hill, BET
"Pariah is the year’s most important debut feature."
-Brandon Wilson, indieWIRE's Shadow and Act
"You are always on the look out for storytellers that are able to make a film transcendent, and in her debut, Rees is able to accomplish that task and then some."
-Melissa Silverstein, Women and Hollywood
"Pariah is a heart wrenching coming of age and coming out story that has turned out to be one of the most important films of our time."
-Starrene Rhett, Vibe.com
"The entire cast is superb with acting of the highest order."
Pete Hammond, Backstage Magazine
